Reflect on Reading Habits

Let’s start with a comment on the images provided by AVP.

In the first image we can see some people reading at a public library. Part of them will be reading imponed texts as part of their education and some others will be reading their own choices. Nowadays, most people go to libraries to read imposed readings, so it is not a pleasant activity. Little people go to libraries to read by pleasure, though it is the perfect place  . Silence and concentration go by the hand.

In the second picture, a woman is reading a book to a little girl. As a deduce by the format, it is a childlike reading, so it will be pleasant to both of them. To the woman since she is offering what the girl needs. For the girl, because it is of her taste. Nowadays, this image is not very common. We can sadly see children and teenagers abducted by their mobile phones, tablets or any other portable technology.

In the third picture, there is a woman reading on an e-book. Technology has made the evolution from the printed format to the electronic version possible. Users of this last version state it is more comfortable, since you may store a wide range of readings in it. Though, I prefer using the printed book. It’s a question of feeling the paper, smelling and listening to the pages going for and backwards. Personally, I don’t mind carrying some books with me.

In the fourth image, we can see an example of imposed reading. We can see children at school. They don’t seem funny at all. Some traditional books have been replaced by digital books and boards and in some schools, students use their smartphones or tablets to study. A recent study in Sweden has proved being a total failure and they are going back to the use of paper books.

In the last picture, there is a man reading at the park. He is freely seated on top of the bench reading a newspaper. He has probably chosen it. He seems concentrated on his task and enjoying it.

As I have preciously explained, I prefer reading paper books in any case. I identify myself with the pictures of the library and the park.  Need to be in silence most of times to read, although I adapt to other spaces, like the public transport or waiting at the doc.  I enjoy reading books about teenagers mind evolution, psychology and dark novel. I have, however, a wide range of books at home.  Depending on my feelings and the context I choose one or another. I read in Spanish and English, though it is true that I have a wider range of Spanish books. Nowadays, I feel more comfortable with them. I prefer to watch and listen to conferences in English.
